Dear Professor, The Tyshler Fencing School in Johannesburg, South Africa and Moscow, Russia as well as the Department of Fencing of the Russian State Academy of Physical Education were greatly interested to have found out about your work vis a vis the creation of the sports program of "Artistic Fencing". We support your ideas and are eager to assist in the development of this new type of competition. We share your hope that it will be created as a part of the International Fencing Federation. We have experience in directing fencing scenes in theatres, movies, show presentations, the training of dramatic actors, as well as experience in teaching fencing in drama schools and academies. We would greatly appreciate it, if you would send us more information about your project. We are particularly interested in the following: 1. What kinds of historical weapons you are planning to use, for example: а). Thrusting epee. (French XVI-XVII century); b). Cutting and thrusting epee (Italian XVI century); c). Sword and dagger (XV century); d). Sword and a shield (XIII-XIV century); e). Japanese two handed sword; f). Sabre (Hungarian or other). 2. What you expect the weapon to look like: size and weight, classification, the size of the field of battle, the duration of the performance? 3. What events will be included in the program? For example: а). Individual free exercises with the weapon; b). Duel bout; c). Group fencing bout. 4. Whether historical suits, music and other adornments will be used? We think that to become a part of the International Fencing Federation, "Artistic Fencing" should include two parts: 1. A fencing competition for one hit, with the round robin system or two rounds of pools (in the case of a large number of participants), with double defeats, the duration of bout should be one minute. 2. The artistic event The winner is determined by the sum of the results of participation in the sports and the artistic components of the program. With the best regards, David Tyshler Gennady Tyshler |
