WORLD
ARTISTIC FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Fencing
Professor at the Chaillot National Theater and The President of the FIE,
with the aim of creating the World Artistic Fencing Championships, asked
me to put forward a project I emphasize the meaning of this word for
the rules and program of this future event. Given
the development of this new form of fencing in all the federations, I
believe that I have been, along with the Academia d’Armes de France, one
of the driving forces in this discipline, and I am sure that Masters
Gardere and Lacaze will agree with me. With
the approval of the president, for this first study I collaborated with
our Communication Secretary, Florence Loireau, an expert in figure
skating, who was our reference point for the contents, development,
preparation, media coverage and judgment of these World Championships,
which will be a major novelty in the international fencing circle. We
will therefore provide some simple observations, since preparatory
meetings at international level will be necessary for the setting up of
this new competition. These
meetings, where along with fencing teachers, musicians, choreographs,
theatre technicians and actors will be present, will aim to refine the
movements of artistic fencing while at the same time respecting the
cultural identity of the selected athletes. It
is in fact vital that this new discipline be codified as best possible,
because without rejecting the idea of combat, blows which come close to
brutality will of course be excluded and sanctioned. A
second article to appear in the next edition of the magazine will put
forward a set of rules whose contents will of course be open to any
comments, observations or modifications. |
